Babe Ruth Softball has landed in the Dominican Republic. One of the countries to watch the streaming of the 2016 Babe Ruth World Series was right here in the Dominican. Our streaming videos opened local eyes to our softball program and to Babe Ruth League as a program they would like to see right here.
After months of meetings in preparation, Babe Ruth League has our World Series host team in 16u set to play games against the Dominican Republic Junior Olympic Team! The team will also be performing camps and clinics for local communities with an effort to introduce Babe Ruth League all over the island.
To start the team had to make plans to head out of Miami, Florida to Santo Domingo. Our players and coaches decked out in the new Babe Ruth Softball USA uniforms walked throughout the terminal taking pictures and saying hello to many onlookers wishing them well. They even received a special message from the flight crew of American Airlines as they landed.
Once on the ground, our team took a tour of our accommodations and even fit in a swim on the beach before a group dinner together.
The players will face off at 11am today against the Junior Olympic Team of the Dominican Republic. Not an easy task as many players they will face will be a little older. The Dominican team for their part will soon be heading to the USA to face off in the World Baseball Softball Confederation Tournament, held in Clearwater, Florida.
Babe Ruth League officials are also on hand to meet with local officials as new leagues are set up to run both Baseball and Softball in the Dominican Republic. Stay tuned for more on their experience in the days to come!
Day 2 - July 10th 2017
Babe Ruth Softball faced off against the Dominican Republic Jr. National Team. Our Babe Ruth Softball team is made up of 16u girls from the Treasure Coast in Florida and will be playing as the World Series Host Team in 2 weeks. The Dominican Republic team is comprised of 18 and 19-year-old girls and will be leaving for the states to play in WBSC World Championship on July 24th.
The Dominican team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in first inning and the score would stay that way until the 5th when Babe Ruth USA crossed the plate for a run. Down 2-1 going into the last inning Babe Ruth Softball scratched out 2 additional runs to take the lead 3-2. In their final at bat the Dominican team was not going to be deterred by the younger USA Team and battled back to win 4-3.
After the game, the players lined up and shook hands. The players then on their own, got into a group circle where a prayer and cheer was performed by both teams. Afterwards Babe Ruth Softball players gave World Series Pins to each of their opponents and got together to take a group photo at the pitching circle.
Leaving the field, the players took a bus ride to The Three Eyes National Park where they took in the caves and majestic scenery. After getting back to the hotel the players headed for the beach to soak in some sun, before getting cleaned up for our group dinner.
