July 16th-July 17th

For this year’s Babe Ruth Softball 35th Anniversary and the Babe Ruth Softball World Series 20th Anniversary, we are proud to announce this year’s 14U, 16U, and 18U World Series Keynote Speaker: Monica Abbott. Team USA Softball and Scrap Yard Dawgs Professional Athlete, Monica Abbott, will be traveling to the Treasure Coast to interact with our World Series Participants for week one. Ms. Abbott will be participating in our Babe Ruth Experience Event and then deliver the keynote speech at the Opening Ceremonies event at Indian Riverside Park.

Monica Abbott is a seasoned professional athlete with many accolades in her career as a pitcher. During her time at the University of Tennessee she set the record for the most strikeouts in a Division I softball season her senior year. In 2007 she received the Honda Sports Award for the Top Collegiate Softball Player in the country, and was also named the 2007 Women’s Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year. In 2008, Abbott was selected for Team USA team to compete in the Beijing Olympics, earning a silver medal in the Championship game against Team Japan. After the Olympics, Abbott participated as a professional athlete with the Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan, and then with the National Pro Fastpitch team, the Chicago Bandits. In 2016, Abbott signed with the Scrap Yard Dawgs for a six-year contract for about one million dollars; a contract believed to be the largest ever paid by an individual American franchise to a female professional athlete. Abbott was recently selected for the 2020 USA Olympic Team and will compete in the Summer Olympic games in Tokyo.

Monica Abbott’s experience in the professional sports world makes her an excellent role model for our young aspiring athletes. She will give pivotal insight on topics such as college recruitment and the professional softball market to our athletes. We at Babe Ruth League Inc. and the Treasure Coast Athletic Association are proud to announce this partnership with Ms. Abbott, which will give our participants the opportunity to get to know one of the most influential women in the sport of softball.
